Arctic Sea Ice at all time low - Key facts beyond headline

Arctic sea ice has an annual cycle. Each year the minimum ice is noted about the third week of September. Today it was announced that melting had reduced the polar ice sheet to 1.3 million sq miles (3.4 million skm). That is truly alarming, but not for the reason commonly believed. It has no direct effect on sea level rise. It is worth understanding why it is still very ominous.

Oceans are 71% of Earth's Surface, but more than 99% of Biosphere

If asked how much of our planet is ocean, most educated people will give a correct approximate of something like the "two thirds." A more accurate answer would be about 71% of the planet's surface area.

REUTERS: Rising Sea Level Can't Be Stopped -- Only slowed

A Reuters lead story last week out of London, got the key facts about rising sea level dead on: Rising sea level can no longer be stopped, even if we stop all greenhouse gas emissions, though it can be slowed.

Verdict is In: Climate is Changing -- Beyond Weather Variability

March through May -- the Spring months -- witnessed the breaking of temperature records all across the US.

Weather experts are calling it the "Summer in March."  35 Heat records were broken for every record breaking Cold statistic.
