West Antarctica Warming 3 x Faster Than Average

As 2012 ends a new study provides evidence that Western Antarctica is warming ahead of forecasts. This has serious implications for the rate of sea level rise, particularly what is termed catastrophic sea level rise. The area in question is Western Antarctica.

Record King Tide's mark rising sea level - future norms

All over the world extreme high tide's, so called "King Tides" have been setting new records. Tides are more extreme each month reflecting the lunar cycle and the alignment of the planets. Such extreme tides add to the gradually rising sea level, and occassionally to a higher ocean bulge due to a low pressure system or storm surge. Superstorm Sandy was a clear example of all these effects piling up for greater effect.

Sea level rising 60% ahead of forecasts

A new study published in the peer-reviewed journal Environmental Research Letters confirms that sea level has been rising 60% faster than the projections. Led by Stefan Rahmstorm, a world-renown oceanographer from the Potsdam Institute - Germany, the paper "Comparing Climate Projections to Observations up to 2011" is the most recent and thorough analysis of sea level change compared to the climate forecasts.

"Don't Panic, But the Shoreline Is Moving Inland"

Yesterday the Disinformation site published a new article of mine "Don't Panic, But the Shoreline is Moving Inland." It is getting significant attention, my first piece post-"Sandy".

It both summarizes some key points from my book High Tide On Main Street and makes the distinction bewteen storm surge and rising sea level, that are largely overlooked in the discussion following the tragedy on the East Coast. Worth sharing.

Super Storm Sandy described in New book: High Tide On Main Street

Stanger than fiction. Last Monday night, October 22nd, Tropical storm "Sandy" -- now Hurricane Sandy -- was just slowly forming about six hundred miles south of Jamaica in the Caribbean, not raising any particular concern at the time.

Twelve hours EARLIER, I sent my book "High Tide On Main Street: Rising Sea Level and the Coming Coastal Crisis" to Amazon to be listed for sale the next day. There is no way that I had any idea what would happen over the next week.

"High Tide on Main Street" book now on Amazon.com

"High Tide On Main Street: Rising Sea Level and the Coming Coastal Crisis", my new book, is now available for purchase on Amazon.com After nearly three years of research, writing, editing, and last minute updates to incorporate recent research, it is very exciting to have this published. It is receiving excellent reviews, excerpted below. To quote from the back cover:
