US Navy Pacific Commander: "Climate Change and SLR top threat"

The head of  the US Navy’s Pacific fleet called climate change the most significant threat to long-term security in that region.  Navy Admiral Sean J. Locklear III made the comments Friday in an interview with The Boston Globe.

Record CO2 Rise Spells Disaster for Future Generations

Carbon Dioxide levels took a record jump, now at 395 ppm -- noted in an article in the Huffington Post. This is not good news. As NOAA expert Peter Tans explains, this makes it very unlikely that we can hold the temperature increase to 2 degrees C this century (about 3.5 degrees F). That foretells quite a climate disaster, even aside from the long term ice melt that will raise sea level and move the shoreline far inland eventually.

GAO adds Climate Change as Fiscal High Risk for U.S.

February 14 the GAO (US Government Accounting Office) delivered their Report to Congress about High Risk exposures. This year they deleted a few previous concerns and added several new high risks.

The Dutch are widely acknowledged to have the greatest expertise with holding back the sea. Generally that is perceived to take the form of levees, huges movable gates, and windmills to pump the water from low lying land. It describes well the sweeping changes proposed for New Jersey's shoreline as the effects of Sandy are studied. This is the shape of the future.  It will happen to coastal communities worldwide over the course of this century.
